Press Release: Blue1647 Partners with Tech Month Chicago

Blue1647 Partners with Tech Month Chicago to Increase Technology Advocacy and Outreach to Chicago Citizens

Tech Month Chicago launches in June 2016 with a calendar of events and activities throughout greater Chicago, connecting all ages and communities

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 12, 2016 – (CHICAGO, IL) BLUE1647, Chicago’s most creative network of entrepreneurship and innovation centers, is partnering with Tech Month Chicago to help kick off the inaugural citywide initiative by donating event spaces and curating exciting content throughout the month of June.

Blue1647 fosters economic development in technology through programs in its multiple Chicago locations, including hundreds of workshops, classes and curriculum accessible to startups, youth, veterans, and individuals at any stage of the entrepreneurial journey. In addition to hands-on learning opportunities, Blue1647 offers business acceleration, hackathons and other live events where the curious can connect.

Tech Month Chicago is a new grassroots initiative to create a technology awareness month in the city of Chicago each year during the month of June with a calendar of events for the public. With a goal of inclusivity and expanding “S.T.E.A.M” outside of typical industry activities, Tech Month is a month of special events showcasing the depth and diversity of local innovation. The events can be created or hosted by anyone in science, technology, engineering and arts who wants to reach citizens of all ages and communities, with the goal of giving back to the city in an altruistic gesture of civic outreach.

The partnership with Blue1647 will expand Tech Month Chicago into a number of venues across greater Chicago, including its three flagship co-working and creative spaces. Emile Cambry, founder of Blue1647, says, “Tech Month and Blue1647 are well aligned in their missions. Our vision has always been to cultivate ideas and community, to bring outsiders in — not just providing awareness but helping people get hands-on with innovation, right in their own neighborhoods. The result has been an explosion of learning and doing.”

“We are grateful to Blue1647 for being a cornerstone sponsor and partner,” commented Melanie Adcock, President of Tech Month Chicago. “Tech Month Chicago would not exist without their support and mentorship. They have made such a big difference in helping us get started, giving us momentum and space to bring the vision to life. We want to change the way real people feel about science and technology and use it in their lives and careers.”

Tech Month Chicago kicks off June 1, 2016 and is open to anyone to participate. Organizations and individuals spanning all Chicago neighborhoods are invited to organize events with an emphasis on inviting the public, by posting events on TechMonthChicago.com. Suggested events include coding for kids, educational forums and invention showcases, civic panels and demonstrations, activities for families, company tours, job training, meetups and festive music & art celebrations. Tech Month Chicago will act as a promotional arm to help raise awareness and participation citywide.

About Tech Month
Tech Month Chicago is a nonprofit initiative using a grassroots approach to collect and promote a month-long series of special events showcasing the depth and diversity of technology, math, science, arts and inventors. The inaugural launch is June 2016. This series of gatherings, educational activities, parties, and other events seeks to engage new audiences for science and technology in the Chicago area. Different from tech business events, Tech Month Chicago is geared toward all city residents — including senior citizens, kids, parents, and under served communities — to share how technology shapes our culture, and to encourage participation from those outside the industry.
