Northeastern Illinois University Center for College Access and Success Offers Free Venue Space for Tech Month Chicago Events

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: May 16, 2016 – (CHICAGO, IL) Tech Month Chicago participants have a free venue in which to hold panels, demonstrations and other events, as Northeastern Illinois University offers up space in its Center for College Access and Success.

Groups or individuals wishing to make use of this facility during June, 2016 are invited to contact Meghan Hausman at (312) 563-7117 to discuss their proposal and arrange approval and scheduling.

The Center for College Access and Success is an academic educational center and is the largest school improvement organization in Chicago. Founded in 1978, it plays a critical role in helping schools succeed by partnering actively with parents, teachers, students, and neighborhood communities in its programs. This approach helps students succeed both academically and socially.

Meghan Hausman, Assistant Program Coordinator for the Center, said “Tech Month Chicago’s mission is very much in alignment with our core vision and values, so we are delighted to play a part in its inaugural year. We can host any speakers during the month of June at our main facility at Chicago and Halsted.”

The Center is working to create Tech Month Chicago events of its own, including a “Found Items STEM” professional development learning session, and co-branding its regular June make event in honor of Tech Month.

Some of the Center’s more well known programs include CenterSpace (a collaboration and resource center), Maker MOB (a collaboration with Adler Planetarium, Chicago Public Library, Level UP, Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum, Project Exploration, and Scientists for Tomorrow), and the annual Make, Take, and Teach Fair (a maker fair to inspire teachers and assist them with lesson plans and ideas for the classroom).

Additional programs of the Center include:
After School Programs
Curriculum Development
Professional Development for Teachers
College Access
Family and Community Involvement
Adventure Education and Experiential Learning
Language and Culture

Tech Month Chicago is a new cultural happening intended to encourage all of Chicago’s citizens to celebrate S.T.E.A.M. (science, technology, engineering, arts/architecture and math) in their own way, and to build bridges between industry and community. The program invites individuals and organizations to participate by hosting or attending events throughout the month of June 2016. Those interested in adding events to the calendar can submit them for free at www.techmonthchicago.com.
